Explore Casco Bay

OVERVIEW

The islands of Casco Bay were originally called the Calendar Islands because early explorers thought there was an island for every day of the year.  Their count was a little off, but who’s counting? One of the things that makes Portland so special and unique is the beautiful Casco Bay and the island communities.

Leaders will meet you at Portland’s Ocean Gateway cruise ship terminal at 10 am to fit you to your bike before a very short ride to the ferry terminal. We begin our day aboard the mail boat as it cruises the islands of Casco Bay delivering mail and passengers to the island communities. This wonderful ride offers great views of Portland and the chance to discover the beauty of Casco Bay.

We hop off the mail boat on Chebeague Island, the largest island in Casco Bay.  Chebeague’s quiet roads, quaint homes, and ocean views offer a wonderful experience of island life. Up island we stop at the Chebeague Island Inn where we enjoy lunch over looking Casco Bay.

After lunch, we catch a ferry to Cousins Island where we cycle across the island and over the causeway to the mainland. We return to Portland around 5:30 pm

Participants should be comfortable cycling 25 miles. Please wear athletic clothing and close-toed shoes. Reservations require a $50.00 deposit which is fully refundable in the event of a weather cancellation declared by Summer Feet Cycling. Refundable less $5.00 with 48-hour notification.  Deposit is non-refundable in the event of a guest no-show or less than 48-hour cancellation.
