Nova Scotia is a world unto itself, rich in maritime culture and history. Your bicycle tour will take you to the local level so you can fully experience this unique Canadian province. We’ll ride quiet coastal roads and wander past farms, and stay at a lovely old resort overlooking the Annapolis basin. We’ll cycle past lighthouses above the Bay of Fundy where you will see some of the world’s most dramatic tides. A candle lit tour of the old burying grounds and historic tales make an unforgettable night. Dine on local favorites and the freshest seafood found anywhere. Enjoy a hearty lunch of favorite comfort foods at Mrs. McGee’s farm kitchen. Marvel at the 400-year-old dykes that hold the Fundy tide at bay. Halifax, NS (YHZ)
Leaders will collect you in Halifax on the first morning of our bicycle tour of Nova Scotia. From here we will transfer to Annapolis Royal, the birthplace of Canada. A short warm-up ride takes us through this charming town. This evening we’ll relax with aa welcome cocktail hour, dinner, and candle light tour of the historic graveyard.
Grab your bicycle… Nova Scotia awaits. Today we will cycle out of town towards Victoria Beach. Along the way we stop to see the tidal power plant, and to visit Port Royal which was the 1st French habitation in the New World. Our ride continues along the shores of the Bay of Fundy to the quaint village of Victoria Beach. The enthusiastic can opt for the challenging ride to Delaps Cove. After cycling choose to relax, or to visit the wonderful historic gardens.
This is just a great day of riding. Flat to rolling terrain along quiet country lanes, farms, fields and with luck the west wind at our backs, we ride towards the pleasant college town of Wolfville. The highlight of this day has to be lunch at Mrs. McGee’s. We hope you are hungry as she invites you into her farm kitchen for some good old Annapolis Valley comfort food. In Wolfville take some time to bike around town and see some of the quaint shops or try a pint of local brew at a sidewalk café.
Our ride takes us Kingsport Beach where we walk along the beach in the shadow of Nova Scotia’s iconic red sand cliffs. Our day leaves plenty of time to explore some of the local wineries, there are 15 in the area, and to sample some prize winning Nova Scotia white wines. Those looking for a challenge can make the optional climb to Cape Look Off for panoramic views of the valley. Tonight, we are in for a treat as we enjoy a gourmet meal of local meats and produce.
Today we ride to the Grand Pre National Historic Site. Here we can relive the history of the expulsion of the Acadians by the British in 1755. From there we ride up on top of 400 year old dykes that keep the rising Fundy tide from the lush fields below. After the day’s ride we will transfer across the province to Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and thriving fishing port since 1650.
Enjoy great riding along the sea coast as we visit tiny communities like Rose Bay, Kingsburg and LaHave. We ferry across to continue riding on the LaHave Island dotted with tiny harbours and stunning headlands. Take some time in the late afternoon to walk the old town streets and see the unique architecture in the old sea captains’ homes. With any luck, a tall ship will be tied up right outside our hotel!
The last day comes too soon, but there is still a ride to do. We ride quiet roads along Princes Inlet and into the bustling village of Mahone Bay with its shops and lovely churches. Then we continue on to Indian Point where we can observe mussel farms and lobster traps. Finally we will have to load up and take you on in to Halifax.
