A Camden Weekend Bike Tour

< >

Nestled amongst verdant hills, with stately old houses, a picturesque harbor, and a charming main street, it is no wonder Camden has been voted the prettiest town in Maine. Our 3-day bike tour of this classic Maine town begins with a bike ride along a tree-lined ocean preserve and through lush farmland ringed with ancient rock walls. We continue by cycling one of Maine’s most beautiful islands in the heart of Penobscot Bay with ocean views around every corner. We conclude our tour cycling to the town of Rockland and to my favorite lighthouse, the majestic Owls Head Light. Along the way take time to explore the areas’ many galleries, and relax aboard the deck of an antique wooden sailboat as we enjoy a sunset cruise on Penobscot Bay.

Highlights

  • Cycle Islesboro Island and Maine’s Rocky Coast
  • Enjoy a sunset sail on Penobscot Bay
  • Explore the shops and galleries of Camden and Rockland

Day 1 – Cycling the Prettiest Six Miles in Maine*

We meet at 2pm Friday afternoon for an afternoon of cycling through the charming coastal village of Rockport. A delightful mix of tranquil farm lands and ocean views highlight our ride. In the evening we gather for a wine and cheese reception before dinner at one of Camden’s finest restaurants.

Day 2 – Cycling the Pristine Island of Islesboro and a Sunset Sail

The early morning ferry carries us to Islesboro where stately pines and 40 room cottages serve as a backdrop for our ride around one of Maine’s prettiest islands. Tonight we explore Penobscot Bay from the deck of a classic wooden schooner before a casual dinner.

Day 3 – Exploring Rockland, Owl’s Head, and Birch Point

Just south of Camden, Rockland is rapidly becoming a summer destination in its own right. Today’s ride will carry us to Rockland and the Owls Head Light. Spend the afternoon wandering the Farnsworth Museum of Art or choose to cycle the rural beauty of the St George Peninsula and around Rackliff Island. • We had a wonderful time as usual with Summer Feet Cycling. This was our second trip with you and you did not disappoint. The trip was all that was expected and more. The weather was gorgeous, the cycling superb, the accommodations wonderful and comfortable, the sunset cruise and dinner terrific. Best of all, the group and guides were a lot of fun to be with. We certainly enjoyed ourselves immensely. We give give Kim and Sheila high marks for availability, friendliness, assistance, and trying to meet all the needs of a varied cycling group. You get a 10.

  • One of the best vacations we’ve ever had. Being with Alyssa and Jeremy was just as much fun as the biking and the other activities. They were knowledgeable, fun, helpful, and knew what to say and when to say it. They worked very well together.

  • We just started biking this past March. We travel several miles but the land is basically flat. It was a rude awakening when we started the bike tour. … I never worked so hard in my life. BUT I LOVED IT. It made me a better biker and it inspired me to get better. I had a wonderful time!

  • Darcy was a great leader! Enjoyed her immensely. She took care of every detail, was attentive, helpful, knowledgeable, kind. Loved Chess too! Both leaders were excellent!

  • The trip was great in itself, but with Nick and Jeremy as the guides, they added another level of “greatness” to the entire experience.

  • She [Darcy] was truly top notch! Could not have imagined a better guide! Can’t say enough!

  • Darcy literally went above and beyond on the entire trip … if I even just mentioned something she would jump right on it and get it done or accomplished. She was professional, knowledgeable, FUN, attentive, and went above and beyond!

  • Thanks for the trip! It was everything I hoped it would be.

  • I went on your Camden trip this past weekend and I wanted to say Thank You so much!!! It was my first cycling trip ever and we had So Much Fun!!!

  • Just the right amount of cycling with plenty of options. Leaders took great care of us.

  • We were impressed that we could order anything off the menu and great choices! This trip was awesome.

I’ve been to Camden in 2010 and again in 2011. Love the rides and the gentle hills of the coastline. The “oreo cows” are a favorite and the full moon rise from the deck of the Schooner Olad is an image I’ll carry with me for quite some time. Thank you Summer Feet for two years of wonderful riding!
